Advent Sunday Service Morcott 3rd December

Advent Sunday Service Morcott 3rd December

Everyone is very welcome to Morcott’s Advent Service on 3 December 2017, in St Mary’s Church, starting at 4pm.

Before Christmas comes the season of Advent – a word derived from the latin ‘to come’. The service explores the themes of dark and light, and of waiting and hoping for what is to come through readings including RS Thomas and TS Eliot, and with Advent hymns.

Mulled wine and mince pies after!

CAROL SERVICE
Sunday 17 December 2017 at 4.00pm, Barrowden Church
REHEARSALS
First rehearsal – Friday 8 December 2017 at 7.30pm, Barrowden Church
(avoids clashing with Uppingham Choral Society)
Second rehearsal – Sunday 17 December 2017 at 2.30 – 3.30pm
THE FORMAT OF THE EVENT
The format is taking shape and we are planning for two choir only carols.  The first to set the scene for the unfolding of the story, the second for a quiet contemplative interlude. Hopefully we can harmonise at least some of the other carols.  We will see how much we can take on in the Friday rehearsal.
YOUNGER GENERATION
We would like to involve them in the Service in a meaningful way; bringing in candles at the start, sitting in the front pew to join the choir singing some of the carols, reading a prayer, a lesson and helping with the collection.
Help needed:  Can you enthuse, recruit us a cohort of youngsters?
Please let Julia Harbage have any names of youngsters who would be happy to read, help with the collection etc. (email julia.harbage@gmail.com or leave a message on 01572 747 760.
CAROLS
Music – Most of the carols are in the ‘Anglican Hymns Old and New’.  Hopefully we can borrow enough copies to photocopy and then destroy them after the service.
Help needed:  Can anyone borrow a supply of choir folders?
Help needed:  Do you have any friends who can sing tenor parts?  If so, we would love to hear from them.
We will be singing the usual favourites plus:
Born in the night.
Choir only at the beginning.  (candles brought to the altar by youngsters)
I wonder as I wander.
Soprano solo and choir
Away in a manger.
The youngsters, mums, choir, all
Joy to the World
To end with trumpet and flute!
We very much hope that most of you will be able to commit to these dates.   If you have any queries or are able to help please get in touch with Julia.
ps.  On a final note, we have been asked to mention that John Comber is looking to replenish members for ‘The Elastic Band’ – the all-age Barrowden/Benefice music group.  They tend to play monthly and if you know of anyone who may like to join – any age – any instrument, John would like to hear from you.  If you cannot contact him, leave a message with Julia Harbage, which she will pass on.

Duddington Remembrance Service 12th November 2017

Duddington Remembrance Service 12th November 2017

Duddington Remembrance Service   12th November 2017

St Mary’s held a most successful remembrance service for Tixover and Duddington, led in an excellent manner by Rev Peter Jupp.

The congregation of over 30 were especially pleased to be accompanied by Duncan Mc  Irae  on the church organ .  Wreaths were laid on the altar by Evie Holder (9) and Tilly Maunder (6) and the Church Wardens.

These were later collected and taken to the war memorial.

We very grateful to Duncan’s son  Rhairi ,who travelled down from Leeds University to play the last post and National Anthem at the Memorial,  following the laying of wreaths from the Parish Council and the Church. After the service everyone returned to the warmth of the Church to enjoy Mulled Wine and mince pies.
